Student Feedback

Enable students to give appropriate feedback to teachers and the school

RESULTS

Presentation

Learnings

  • Students should have more control on what they're learning. There needs to be a transparent way that allows students to give feedback and it needs to get implemented. Therefore, the curriculum also needs to be more adaptable.
  • The lack of giving feedback creates a vacuum. That's why it's important to allow for student feedback.
  • It's difficult to decide how the feedback process works. Who sees what and how or where?
  • It's also difficult to decide how do you ask the right questions? When the questions are not asked the right way, you don't get valuable answers. There is the risk of biases.
  • Students thought the length of the questionnaire is good. The format could be better. Students decided how the questionnaire should look like, what kind of feedback they want to give.
  • One needs to take care of teachers. Sometimes when you complete a questionnaire it can be done not well or in a mean way. But if you do it on your own terms, it can be more valuable. If we have many feedback we can compare if it's an average opinion or not.
  • The questionnaire needs to be short, with the most important questions.

Achievements

  • Create questionnaire approved by students.
  • Gather first answers by students on different teachers.

CHALLENGE

What's the problem you want to solve and why?

Students should have the opportunity to give feedback on lessons or teaching units that meet the following criteria: time-ly, targeted, differentiated, anonymised. In addition, it should be possible to guide and document the subsequent steps, i.e. the discussion of the feedback, the agreement of measures and the review of the effectiveness of measures in a simple form (in such a way that the data “belongs” to the teacher and made transparent to the class without giving up the personal protection of those affected). The Student Feedback project is intended to contribute to a new feedback culture at school.

What's the solution / project you are suggesting?

We develop a tool (an app, an online questionnaire ...) with which the feedback can be obtained/given and documented accord-ing to the criteria mentioned.

How could this idea be developed or tested at a 30-hours Hackathon?

A tool will be developed in the collaboration of teachers, pu-pils, programmers and a feedback expert.

All attendees, sponsors, partners, volunteers and staff at our hackathon are required to agree with the Hack Code of Conduct. Organisers will enforce this code throughout the event. We expect cooperation from all participants to ensure a safe environment for everybody. For more details on how the event is run, see the Guidelines on our wiki.
